There are four main aspects towards the selection and design of a manufacturing process, viz, raw material and its manufacturability, Material properties and product attributes, fundamentals involved in the various processes, and the technical aspects of the Manufacturing processes. The students are expected to have been exposed to the first three aspects, in the earlier courses of their curriculum. This course focuses on understanding the science and technology of various manufacturing processes. The objectives of this course can be listed as:

  1. To understand basic manufacturing processes
  2. To expose students to the advances in manufacturing processes for metals, ceramics and polymeric materials
  3. To expose students to various laboratory experiments to realize the conventional and advanced manufacturing techniques
  4. To solve analytical problems based on design parameters for manufacturing process
